It's not easy being a #1 seed. One of the four best rated teams in the country only wins the tournament about half the time (52%). Only 42% make it to the Final Four. Although, more recently, 10 of 14 #1s (71%) have been crowned national champion, only 24 of 56 #1s (43%) have made it to the Final Four. In other words, if #1s survive to the Final Four, one of them is more likely than not to win it all.
