The early '90s, especially in California with all the defense cutbacks under GHW Bush, was definitely worse.

Worse in your part of the state, the SoCal area, but not here. This economy is by far the worst we have seen in Silicon Valley, Seattle and some say Boston- EVER.

The problem is that the technology centers were the destinations of choice for the new college graduates and also served as hubs for new business ventures. So losing the tech economy is particularly painful to groups of people that don't necessarily live here. If the Bush people think they can spin it like "this economy is better than Texas in the 80s" they are sadly mistaken. The oil economy never drove the US economy like Silicon Valley did.
