It is perhaps more difficult for the general public to discover whether the agent is selling his own property, than it is for a member of the MLS. But this is very important information to discover.

I cannot say for sure if Massachusetts real estate law is the same as California, but as I said, my impression is they are very similar. If so, the agent is required to disclose his ownership in the property to all who inquire about it, in addition to written disclosures in the MLS listing.

If the actual facts resemble those described by "fatty", and they had taken place in California, the agent's lies would already be actionable by the California Department of Real Estate.

Fatty could obtain further assistance from the Board of Registration of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, an independent real estate agent, or an attorney.

Your state of Virginia may permit real estate agents much wider latitude in providing misrepresentations to the public. I'm not familiar with Virginia law.
