lorne, ex-Bush administration officials (plural) have said very clearly that Bush came into office and from day one wanted to avenge the assasination attempt on the life of his father. He was not interested so much in avenging the death caused to 3000 plus innocent lives lost in WTC.

He was not interested in fighting terrorism. While the French and the Germans continued in hot pursuit of the Al Qaeda terrorists in Afghanistan and refused to divert their troops towards Iraq, Bush diverted the US troops with the excuse of going after the WMDs. He drove out the international weapons inspectors and marched into Iraq. And he did not find any WMDs. What an asshole he looks like to the world when he goes out and blames his intelligence when others are saying that he wanted the intelligence to be shaped so as to suit his designs.

I guess you did not watch a news clip on TV the other day where they had a Iraqi street youth saying that during Saddam you knew not to oppose Saddam and his regime personally. Other than that you had nothing to fear when you walked the streets of Baghdad. It was peaceful. But now, according to him, no one knows if he or she will come back home safely. That is the extent of the screw up in Iraq today. There was peace then, no terrorist violence, nothing. Now they have violence every hour.

So what war on terroism. The Al Qaeda is chasing the US military wherever they go similar to the Viet Cong going after the US military in Viet Nam 40 years ago.
