I think there would be broad support for nailing Syria ... if I had my druthers that is what we would have done after finishing up in Afghanistan.

Both democrat and republican members of the senate intelligence committee consider it to be the primary supporter of islamic terrorism.

In reality, Syria continues to adopt a strategy of "defiance"which positions it on "the axis of evil":

A. It employs terrorism as an integral component of its strategy: it perceives the "Hizbullah" as a strategic partner and operational arm, and grants shelter to the command posts and operational activities of the Palestinian terrorist organizations situated within its territory

B. It develops weapons of mass destruction as a strategic force, in cooperation with North Korea and Iran, both of which are members of the "axis of evil"

C. It extends the occupation of Lebanon and Lebanese dependence upon it, and subdues its opponents. In addition, it prevents the deployment of the Lebanese Army along the border with Israel - as is required by Security Council Resolution 425 - and thereby facilitates the continued operations of the "Hizbullah" in the area

D. It generates intense anti-Semitism towards the Jews and avenomous enmity and hatred towards Israel

E. It infringes and tramples upon human rights: it represses opponents of the regime in Syria and opponents of the "Syrian order" in Lebanon

F. It takes an aggressive and defiant tone towards the United States and refuses to withdraw its support for terrorism

G. It cooperates with Iraq (particularly on the economic level) despite frequent American protests

H. It maintains close ties with members of the "axis of evil".It places its emphasis on the strategic pact with Iran and vigorous cooperation with Iraq, from which it illegally imports oil and to which it ships equipment - including weapons - contrary to the sanctions regime put in place by the UN.
