heres some info on single chip encoders :
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 18, 1997--NUKO Information Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:NUKO) today announced that it had completed a $1 million investment in Internext Compression, Inc., a developer of the single chip MPEG-2 encoder.
NUKO's President and CEO, Bob Kondamoori, said, ``This investment in Internext provides NUKO with access to single chip encoders that adhere to MPEG-2 industry standards, offering reduced system cost and size which are ideal for the distance learning, conferencing and telemedicine applications. Internext engineers have successfully simulated their first chip design to meet the specific requirements jointly developed by NUKO and Internext, and are currently planning to sample chips before the end of 1997. However, we cannot forecast when our first Internext based product will be available until after the product undergoes normal development prototype and test cycles which are scheduled for completion sometime in 1998.''
Kondamoori further stated, ``The Internext chips will broaden NUKO's offerings to include lower cost applications, complementing the technologies we will continue to offer, including the IBM (NYSE:IBM - news) and C-Cube (NASDAQ:CUBE) based MPEG-2 solutions for the broadcast market.
The purchase agreement with Internext includes exclusive marketing rights for the chip in specific NUKO markets and a NUKO commitment to purchase certain quantities of chips over time.
