Yes, and we called Stalin "Uncle Joe" during World War II, and FDR had the absurd idea that he could charm Stalin into appreciating the advantages of Western democracy. Why would there have been lots of discussion of the faults of the regime when we thought we were encouraging it to evolve? As far as I know, by the way, we did not per se supply him with most of that material, what we did was take off restrictions that permitted him to purchase them. Not so fine a difference if we do not typically restrict countries with whom we have cordial relations. Anyway, I am not denying a mistake. I am saying that, if anything, it makes the current Administration's policy even more correct, by creating a moral obligation to clean up the mess. I am, once again, sorry to have engaged you in the first place, and will give you the final word.
