I never characterized them as bad, though I plead guilty of putting enough emphasis on the brutality of Saddam at the time we were helping him arm that you could assume I was implying it was. But in fact, I drew only two conclusions, and they were my entire point: 1) Cobe's triumphantly presented completely statistics were grossly misleading, and, 2) in the light of the facts, Bush's presentation of the brutality of Saddam as having been a major reason for the war (now that the WMD, the al-Q link, and 9/11 have been seen to have been chimaeras) is ironical, and a perfect example of ignoratio elenchi.

I've also never proposed that we were responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi children. Saddam was.

I really don't know enough of the history to be drawing conclusions about an historical issue so complex.

But if you try to have your cake and eat it too, the hypocrisy of the effort will be pointed out. A discussion of the cake itself is a separate one.
