Saddam harbored terrorists (including AQ) who had killed Americans

The first AQ attack on the US was actually the 1993 WTC bombing. It was masterminded by Ramzi Yousef, cousin of Khalid Shah Mohammed, the AQ leader who planned 9/11. 9/11 was patterned on Yousef's "Operation Bojinka" plan - a foiled plan to hijack and explode 12 US airliners over the Pacific in the '90's. Yousef entered the US on an Iraqi passport. One of his comrades, Abdul Rahman Yasin, indicted for mixing the chemicals used in the first WTC bombing, fled to Baghdad and was given sanctuary and a government stipend there.

Saddam also gave sanctuary to Khala Khadar al-Salahat, a deputy to Abu Nidal, who furnished Libyan agents with the semtex to blow up Pan Am 103 in 1988. He was caught by US Marines in Baghdad last April.

Saddam also gave sanctuary to Abu Abbas who masterminded the Achille Lauro hijacking. Abbas was also captured by US forces in Iraq and recently died in custody.

Saddam also gave sanctuary to Abu Nidal, who masterminded dozens of attacks that killed over 400 people, including 10 Americans.

Saddam also gave sanctuary to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a key AQ leader who was injured by American bombing in Afghanistan and who fled to Iraq and received medical care there. He is behind the October 2000 murder of US AID official Lawrence Foley in Amman and is now running much of the resistance movement to the US and to Iraqi democracy.
