The Tribune Company is one of the few media giants I have a bit of respect for. They run the Chicago Tribune, of course, and also the L.A. Times. Both with dependably sensible and centrist editorial staffs. *** Re: NPR should have a little independance now that Mrs. Kroc gave them some financial breathing room. I doubt that it will work out quite the way we'd like to see it. I'm deeply irritated that Kevin Klose, the CEO of NPR has a ten year history as a propagandist for the government on C.I.A. related projects like the Voice of America and Radio Marti. I have felt that NPR is moving steadily to the Right politically, and into more infotainment as opposed to real news.
