Back in '74 we had a rash of motorcycles being stolen and mine was one of two stolen from the apartment complex one night. A girl had seen them being stolen and said the thieves were driving a 1968 white Mercury Cougar with the plates being ML6174 and the last number was either a 3 or an 8. I wrote that down, took it to the police and watched as the desk sergeant wadded up the paper and tossed it in the garbage. Too much trouble to trace the plates.
