<"deplorable"?> The foundations for democracy and liberty we seek for ourselves and the people of the world rest on the foundations of our political system -- the rule of law is an essential part of the foundation of our political system. Nobody is above the law. The President of the United States -- the most powerful man in the world -- is not above the law. The strongest case for the support of Israel is not that Jewish people live there, but rather it is because they have a political system worthy of support -- a system based on the rule of law. No democracy can exist without the rule of law. When you destroy the rule of law, you destroy democracy. Sharon took a major step yesterday towards the destruction of Israel and the destruction of American support for Israel. The strongest critique of Bush is that he has undermined the rule of law in the US and around the world. Bush has not furthered the interests of democracy -- he has weakened its foundations.
