Glad you had a good time in Seattle. I agree that people will not be persuaded by the presentation of historical or scientific facts alone.

I am studying the book of John with a small group and I was struck by the different reactions to the same miracles of Jesus especially to the resurrection of Lazarus after four days. One group believed but many did not. The question is why?

I am persuaded that all people have enough raw "information" to understand that there is a Personal Creator, to whom we are morally responsible. The bible makes that clear in passages like Acts 17:16-34 and Romans 1:18-3:31. Equally clear, at least to my mind is as Luther put it; The Bondage of the Will. "He who sins is the slave of sin" and that slave can only be released from captivity by sovereign act of God, who came in the person of Jesus to do just that. I see regeneration as necessarily preceding faith. So why bother to present evidence at all? I think it comes down to simple obedience, a heart to see others receive the same undeserved grace that we have received, and the acknowledgment that God ordains the means as well as the ends.

Have a great day all;
I have to teach a class this morning.
