Web Advisory -- Compaq and Microsoft Set Performance Milestone for SAP R/3 on Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Windows NT Server
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 18, 1997--Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) have posted a new performance milestone of 1011 SAP Standard Sales and Distribution (SD) benchmark users on a Compaq ProLiant 7000 database server. The hardware configuration consisted of a Compaq ProLiant 7000 database server with 4 Pentium Pro 200 MHz processors, 3 GB of RAM, and 172 GB of total disk space, and 13 Compaq ProLiant 5000 application servers, each with 4 Pentium Pro 200 MHz processors and 1GB of RAM running SAP R/3 Release 3.0F, Microsoft SQL Server 6.5 with Service Pack 3, and Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 with Service Pack 3. There were nine dialog servers, with a measured throughput of 307,000 dialog steps per hour (5117 SAPS), three update servers, and one message and enqueue server. The average CPU utilization was 99% for the database server, 66% for the dialog servers, 39% for the update servers, and19% for the message and enqueue server. The average dialog response time achieved was 1.84 seconds.
With these results Compaq continues to demonstrate its leadership in providing industry-standard systems for deployment of SAP s R/3 on Windows NT. These standard application benchmarks followed SAP published guidelines and are audited and certified by SAP. The benchmarks were performed at Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Washington. .......
