The Vanguard Precious Metals fund plans to reopen to investors after being shuttered during one of its best-performing periods.

The board of trustees of the Precious Metals fund on Wednesday said the $615 million portfolio would broaden its investment scope to include companies involved in mining and non-precious metals or minerals.

The Valley Forge, Pa.-based firm also set a higher minimum investment of $10,000 for the fund, which closed to all investors in June 2002.
