Bush Campaign Gets Backing of a Democrat
By CARL HULSE

President Bush's campaign showcased its favorite Democrat this afternoon, turning Senator Zell Miller of Georgia loose on Democrats in general and Senator John Kerry in particular.

"After listening to Senator Kerry over the last year or two — after hearing the agenda he's laid out for our country — I cannot support him in his race for the presidency," Mr. Miller declared in a speech written for a Democrats for Bush event. (Video) "There are too many issues about which John Kerry and I disagree. And there are too few similarities between John Kerry and the great Democratic leaders I've known."

Mr. Miller, who did praise Mr. Kerry's service in Vietnam, took Mr. Kerry to task for his views on military spending, foreign affairs and economic policy.

"John F. Kerry may have the same initials as John F. Kennedy, but he has a far different view of what the government should do to help families prosper," said the former governor of Georgia, who wrote a recent book explaining his bitter split with the Democratic establishment.
