Clarke's two main points:

(1) Bush didn't pay enough (any) attention to terrorism before 9/11. He admitted as much to Bob Woodward. case closed on this one.

(2) The Iraq war was a diversion that pulled resources out of Afghanistan and weakened our ability to fight al Qaeda which went on to several more acts of terror, inflamed middle east sentiments, creating more terrorists, cost us allies we need in the real war on terrorists, and cost us money that could have been used to improve homeland security.

The latter point is what we should all, including Kerry, be hitting on. That is where Bush is vulnerable. No one is going to hold him responsible for 9/11, but he can surely be held responsible for what he did after 9/11, and here he is really vulnerable.
