Isn't it interesting there are as many different laws as there are States, concerning gun laws?

I support the NRA because it is the best way to defend our constitutional rights. Short sighted people who don't think things through are always willing to give up some right in their search for "safety." I don't like some of the crap that gets said or printed, but I'm never going to argue to abridge the first amendment. Same thing for the second amendment.

The NRA is seeking reciprocity amongst the states that issue concealed carry permits.

For myself, I have no need to carry a concealed weapon, but if I have one in my car going to Montana or hunting or something, I would not like to be arrested for exercising my rights under the second amendment.

I think it is generally true that the states with the most restrictive gun laws are also the ones with the highest crime rates and the highest murder rates. States like Montana, Alaska, and so forth have a low crime rate and a high rate of citizens being armed.

The assault weapon thing is just a red herring. I don't care for assault weapons because they're ugly and I like beautiful firearms. However, it is a fact that one can take an assault weapon and convert it to one that meets restrictive laws and conversely take a standard weapon and convert it to one that fails those same laws WITHOUT CHANGING THE FUNCTIONAL CHARACTERISTICS of the firearms. In other words, the definition of an assault weapon is based on things that are almost purely cosmetic.
