The problem with Conservative thinking starts with the assumption that the government is overly bloated and fat on every level. Many now point to the sponsorship scandal as proof of this. Other assumptions of wasteful spending are that many Canadians just "work the system". That all that’s required is for some one of a determined mind to come in and rid wasteful spending. Tax cuts are a must to deal with all the excess cash that will flow from prudent management of our tax dollars.

So what happens if a conservative government gets in? Tax cuts come first (which benefit mostly rich people), before any surpluses, because that’s conservative dogma. Social programs are cut and the benefits transferred to corporations, the weakest in our society suffer. Still not enough money can be found to pay for the tax cuts and deficit spending inevitably occurs. One only need look at the republicans, the last federal conservative government and what happened in Ontario to see this is true.

You end up with a weaker country further in debt with more homeless etc.and eroded social programs. Conservatives would be a viable choice if they cut spending first and then taxes but this goes against consevative dogma.
