The FBI found out about Moussaoui less than a month before 9/11. The discussion about whether leads arising out of information related to him might have prevented 9/11 falls, in my opinion, in the realm of speculation primarily because of the time involved.

No one can really dispute the notion that a full and proper investigation of Moussaoui's links might have very well lead to the other conspirators. The question is whether, given the more or less innocent spirit of the times and the fact that, except for the home-grown variety, the US had never had any terrorism on its soil, the appropriate investigation would have taken place before 9/11. I'm not convinced that it would have been done in sufficient time to prevent the incident.
