Until yesterday, Senator JOHN F. KERRY, the Massachusetts Democrat, had been reticent about his efforts to have his first marriage annulled, issuing only a terse statement last month. But that changed, as he joked on national radio that the process of annulment can be confusing...
He also spoke about the annulment obtained by another Catholic Massachusetts politician, Representative Joseph P. Kennedy 2d. Representative Kennedy's former wife, Sheila Rauch Kennedy, is trying to persuade the Vatican to repeal the annulment, and she has written a book about her struggle.
"Seventy-five percent of all the annulments in the world take place in the United States, and I guess the figure drops to 50 percent if you take out all Massachusetts politicians," Senator Kerry said on Don Imus's syndicated radio talk show...
