There is a key difference I see between the way Clinton approached the war on terrorism and the way Bush did. Clinton realized that it was a cat and mouse game to get to the terrorists. He was always in hot pursuit. But he did go all over the place, disrupting world economy. mobilizing troops, calling countries names etc. etc. But he had a very sustained approach to hunt them down. And he was pretty sure he would hunt them down.

The Republicans on the other hand, after Dole lost in 1996, placed other priorities. It was more important to them whom Clinton was sleeping around with and whether he was lying about what he was doing in his personal life, While the nation's attention was diverted to the impeachment, Clinton repeatedly kept saying that he was not going to let the impeachment distract him from discharging the duties of a President which was among many things hunting down the terrorists.

Then comes in Bush with an attitude. His staff spent the first 3 months trashing the Clinton WH accusing them of ransacking the WH. Cheney was busy meeting in secret with his energy buddies. Bush was busy doing R&R on the job (he was on a treadmill at 11:30 am when that madman crashed a two seater on the WH). And simply put the Bush WH let their guard down. This is corroborated by Clarke. There was a slackening of the hot pursuit of the terrorists. And bam, terrorists struck.

Brumar, not matter how hard you folks try to fool the American people. The American people are no fools. They are outraged that the Bushies think that they are idiots and that they are being barraged by false attack ads instead of an accounting of what Bush did and where he wants to take the country in the future.
