David,
I appreciate your reasons for not wanting to get caught up in the fireworks and the "nits and nats". Its value is evident in your perspective. It's for this very reason that it's nice to hear you pipe in from time to time. You provide a nice counterpoint to people, like me, that have the time and inclination to sweat the details. And like many on this thread, you convey your thoughts very clearly. That's an asset for us all. I agree with your analysis. I have this gut feeling that AAPL could cross 30 before earnings (2 months away), but that's all it is...a gut feeling. With this period running smack into dreaded October, anything is possible. As an anecdotal side note regarding the negative perception of Apple, I'll leave you with the following. I have a friend who does a lot of hanging out in the Apple section of various retail computer stores here in California (Frey's etc.) He has found that people that have recently bought Apple systems, that were previously on the fence, were swayed by the recent MicroSoft annoucement. This is where I see the value in the way that Jobs has handled this. It's not the money ($150M) or anything else in particular. It's the endorsement from Microsoft at a time when a lot of people I have talked to on the street were wondering if Apple computer was still a viable company. If this is a general phenomenon, it could bode well for Q 4. We shall see.
