"An upgrade path has been lacking, part of the strategy, throw the old one away and buy a new one. Most ISA(Industry Standard Architecture) PC motherboards can be upgraded, keeping monitor, cards case etc for a saving. Not Apple, to their detriment."

You're kidding, right? My current rig began life as a PPC 7500/100 w/ 16 MB RAM and a 500MB HD. It is now a PPC 7500/185 w/64MB RAM and an additional 3.2 GB HD. Virtually every Mac built over the past several years has been easily upgradeable. In fact, Macs are far easier to upgrade than PCs. Other than adding the second internal HD (I went to a dealer), every upgrade (e.g. CPU, memory) took less than 5 minutes and performed flawlessly from the initial boot-up.

"If they do that they can get a huge older installed base into the current fast machine base. A very good move if doable."

Well, you may have lurched into a point here.

We've all seen those cheesey, local car dealer commercials "Pull it in! Push it in! We don't care! We'll give you $1000 for your old piece of junk. Use it as down payment on your new XXXXX."

Apple ought to do something like this. Get Mac users out of those legacy systems and into some shiney new PPC with all the bells and whistles.

Bob
