09:02 UBS comments at communication equipment sector

UBS believes that Cisco and Alcatel are likely winners of AT&T multi-service edge router request for proposal (RFP), the firm values this contract at $50-100mln/yr. Based on discussion with industry contacts, analyst believes that although Juniper faired well in the technical evaluation, AT&T will likely select Cisco and Alcatel. The firm does not believe AT&T will select Nortel as media gateway supplier for its voice over IP rollout and views Sonus or another potential supplier as more likely winners. Based on discussions with industry contacts, analyst expects SBC to make final vendor selection for its reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer and optical switch RFPs in 2Q04. Wireline trends show strength in DSL, IP, and metro optical, this positive for Alcatel and ADTRAN, according to the firm.
