You don’t have to be a Bible thumper to appreciate the Judeo-Christian moral underpinnings that are responsible for making America the great country it used to be.
But it is too late. I think in my area we are experiencing a great upswing in people who have interest in spiritual matters, but, as you imply, the power centers, especially the legal ones, are now so much in the hands of leftists it does not matter what any of us think about the moral issues. No one seems to get it. Moral issues are everything. People constantly try to divorce moral issues from economic issues, implying that a man can cheat morally, as long as he does his job. They don’t realize that Enron and Martha Stewart all happened because of morality. There is no separation between the two. Leftists insist on separating them in order to marginalize the moral forces of the nation. “You go to your moral corner and stay there! We will go over here and control the courts and law, removing your influence completely from them!” When we try to participate, to push our view as they push theirs, they claim the Constitution forbids it. That is where we are – and no one will stop it. It is already too late.
The suffering, the selfishness, hatred, the crime, the debt, family dissolution, disease, the rise in homosexual profligacy and other kinds of deviancy will surely increase. There is no way any series of laws can possibly stop it. But the whole nation will surely turn to even more oppressing law to solve ills that it itself caused. And with those laws will come more government intrusion and dependence. It is already too late to stop it because very few people understand it. Indeed, Americans are actually begging for greater dependence on government right now. |
