Good post. If the US actually now spends that much more on health care than we do, I suspect it is at least partly because they are subsidizing drug costs in other countries. The U.S. doesn't have the price controls that most of Europe and Canada have, so the drug development industry depends on higher prices in the U.S. to pay for their development programs. If the U.S. adopted price controls, drug development would be greatly slowed. Another reason that Americans spend more on health care may be that they are allowed to. I know my brother would gladly have spent a few thousand extra to get his cancer surgery sooner. -g
