It is the common disease of the wealthy to believe that love, like all other emotions, can be won with money, LOL. But to believe that hate is caused by money is worse. If the Islamists were jealous of money, then why aren't they targeting rich countries that keep their noses clean in the Middle East?
No, Osama attacked the WTC as a symbol of American wealth not because of jealousy of that wealth, but instead because his group wishes to reduce American military power, and that military power, as most military power through the ages, is supported by our economic power. His anger is directed not at our economic power, or even at our military power per se, but instead at how we use our military power to assist his primary enemy, Israel.
Our economic power is now in decline, as the record prices of gasoline give evidence.
