Its about time I finally post considering how many of these I have read over the past few weeks !!

Has anyone made mention of a trade journal "Embedded Systems" I just happened to see one sitting around at work today and picked it up. They have a web site http//:www.embedded.com (have not figured out how to do hyperlink yet).

It looks like this organization will be running an embedded systems conference/seminar. It will be held during 9/29/97 to 10/2/97 in San Jose CA.

There are about 100 different seminars being offered at this conference. Only one is about year 2000 problem.

Here are details:
--------------------------------------------
Class 213 & 223
Topic: Year 2000: Planning Planning is the Key
Tuesday 9/30 8:30 am - 10:00 am;10:30 am - 12:00 pm
Speaker: Gene Donlan
Level: Intermediate
Defusing the Year 2000 time bomb has emerged as one of the most immediate issues facing larger corporations today. Gene discusses the "readiness review" which is based on up-front planning and prioritizing for obtaining the best results in a timely and cost-effective manner. In this two-part class, the attendees learn how to perform an in-depth audit of their enterprise business to measure the Year 2000 problem, how to analyze supporting applications to determine the magnitude of their Year 2000 problem, how to prioritize the problems in a Year 2000 context, and how to define solutions that meet time and financial constraints.

Gene Donlan is director of operations management for Hitachi Data systems' professional consulting services. His organization specializes in business operations and technology planning as well as Year 2000
architecture and network consulting. Mr. Donlan holds an undergraduate degree in biology from the University of California, San Diego, and has pursued an MBA at California Coast University.
---------------------------------------

I have not pursued trying to get a hold of Gene Donlan (I am either lazy or have not yet bought enough TPRO). He might be able to provide a good "reality check" about the year 2000 embedded systems problem. The number for the conference is 972-620-3011. Hopefully they would not have a problem with providing his work number to someone calling for information.

Funny thing is that only one out of about 100 seminars at this conference is about the year 2000 problem. In the mainframe business applications world (which is where I come from) year 2000 is a SERIOUS BIG deal.
