<<<Maybe they need to brush up on Treaties 101. Or maybe they don't need no steenking treaties? Just a thought. >>>
There are times I am impatient and I like to see things get done, but getting all parties to agree on stuff is really difficult. Having said that, and tyring to be poliitcal at the same time (probably a very poor recipe), I think we as a super power (by far) should unilaterally set the standard. We should not sink to the level of our lowest form of enemy.
I think we could unilaterally transform civilization. I think GWB has the right idea about unilateralism, but the execution is poor indeed if we have to sink to a lower level.
In my opinion, doing the right thing and self interest are not incompatible. I think if we do the right thing and not just the right thing for us (whether us means family, neighbor, club member, afilliation, whatever - nearly everyone has a different definition), everybody would recognize it (including the French, Germans, and the Rest of Western Civilization). I think Asians are smart enough and recognize they would have to compete using Western Standards that we unilaterally set - if we use real Western Standards of truth, justice, etc., - and not some simple form of cowboy justice.
Just another way of thinking.
