iBasis DirectVoIP Service Simplifies VoIP Interconnections for International Voice Service

Spring VON 2004

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 30, 2004--
Service Combines iBasis Expertise and Multi-vendor Interoperability to Accelerate Migration and Help Carriers Realize Cost Savings of VoIP

At the Voice on the Net (VON) Conference today, iBasis, Inc. (OTCBB: IBAS), the leader in Internet-based voice communications, announced DirectVoIP(TM), a service designed to simplify and accelerate carriers' implementation of direct VoIP interconnections to the iBasis global network for international voice service. Carriers that implement DirectVoIP interconnections benefit from the lower capital and operational costs of VoIP and immediate access to iBasis' global VoIP network, which comprises more than 90 on-net countries and carries billions of minutes of international traffic. One of the ten largest carriers of international voice traffic in the world, iBasis carries more than 14% of international VoIP traffic(1).

Carriers taking advantage of DirectVoIP also leverage iBasis' interoperability with a broad range of VoIP infrastructure equipment. Gateways, gatekeepers, softswitches, and session border controllers from more than 20 vendors have been DirectVoIP Certified following testing in iBasis' interoperability labs and are being used in international traffic exchange over the iBasis Network today.

"It seems that the industry has finally reached a consensus that the future of global telecommunications is VoIP," said Ofer Gneezy, president and CEO of iBasis. "Carriers of all types are now trying to find the most efficient means of migrating current traffic to VoIP and planning for future expansion. DirectVoIP allows them to leverage the operational expertise, proprietary technology, and vendor relationships iBasis has developed over more than seven years experience implementing VoIP interconnections and providing high quality international service over the Internet."

DirectVoIP Provides:

-- Rapid direct VoIP interconnects with international VoIP deployments completed and activated in a matter of days in contrast to weeks typically required for interconnect times to TDM telecommunication carriers;

-- Cost-effective and scalable VoIP interconnects to carriers and providers eliminating the need for increased capital expense associated with fixed TDM circuits, local loops, digital cross-connect switches and gateway ports in global interconnect facilities and data centers;

-- Enhanced Call Signaling control using standards-based VoIP protocols such as H.323 and SIP, allowing operability to multi-vendor gateways, gatekeepers, proxy servers, session border controllers, softswitches, and IP Phones;

-- Simplified network peering using signaling interoperability through protocol proxies and session border controllers;

-- Access to the iBasis Network, a leading source of international minutes for termination revenue, and international call completion to thousands of destination breakouts.

About DirectVoIP Certification

VoIP equipment undergoes testing in the iBasis interoperability lab and in the field before being deployed as a part of the iBasis network. As of March 2003, gateways, gatekeepers, session controllers, softswitches, and SIP proxies from more than 20 different equipment vendors including Cisco Systems, Sonus Networks, NexTone, MERA Networks, MediaRing, Quintum, and VocalTec have been tested and connected to the iBasis network.
