PointOne Selects Convedia's IP Media Servers to Power Nationwide Hosted IP Telephony - HIP-T - Services

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 30, 2004--
Convedia enables PointOne's Prepaid Calling Card and HIP-T Services today and will provide the media processing for PointOne's future services

Convedia(R) Corporation, the leading provider of IP media processing platforms, today announced that PointOne Telecommunications has deployed and standardized on its family of IP Media Servers. PointOne is recognized as one of the first service providers in the nation to develop and deploy a true, pure Voice over IP (VoIP) network, designed from the ground up to provide converged next generation services. With connections to 90 U.S. cities and several international markets, PointOne's network currently processes more than half a billion calls per month. Convedia's Media Servers are at the heart of PointOne's SIP-based Prepaid Calling Card Service and provide a comprehensive media processing platform for PointOne's other IP Telephony enhanced services.

"Innovative and aggressive companies like PointOne understand the strategic importance of providing a comprehensive suite of enhanced services to their customers. Service providers are increasingly utilizing IP media servers as an integral network element to facilitate the delivery of enhanced applications," said David Fraley, principal analyst in Gartner's Network Infrastructure group. "Multi-service IP media servers like those from Convedia are enabling a broad range of enhanced services and applications which are integral to the success of the next generation network."

Convedia media servers consolidate the functions of traditional announcement servers, interactive voice response (IVR/VRU) units, conference bridges, messaging platforms and speech platforms into a multi-service, open standards compliant solution for network and enhanced services media processing. While the product provides compelling CAPEX and OPEX savings in single service deployments, the economics and ROI of a Convedia solution become even stronger as additional services are deployed and leverage previously installed media server infrastructure.

"PointOne has deployed a world-class converged network that is the foundation for many exciting SIP-based applications and services," said Sam Shiffman, executive vice president at PointOne. "Convedia's broad and proven eco-system of partners, and the breadth of services that they support, was extremely appealing to PointOne. These advantages, combined with their unparalleled scalability and reliability made their media server platform the clear winner for PointOne."

"By combining their advanced VoIP network and Convedia's Media Servers, PointOne is ideally positioned to quickly build new services and solutions for their customers that are highly differentiated and competitively priced," said Peter Briscoe, president and CEO of Convedia. "We are pleased to partner closely with PointOne, providing an integral component of their communications infrastructure."
