I saw most of the hearings and I was tuned in when Clarke made his 3 "Money Shots". I really take my hat off to Clarke. He is smart. He knows what he knows and he knows what everybody else knows. In corporate-life there is always an archetype like Clarke, annoyingly untouchable.
I never saw anybody think on their feet like Clarke. This skill honed by explaining the difference between Strategy and Tactics to hundreds of people in high places.

I must admit that I tipped over into having feelings for Rumsfeld. He was pretty good at the hearings. He's good on his feet too. At a Press Conference the next day Rummy knew the gig was up. He ran into a wall. He knew it, the Press knew it and The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs knew it. The Joint Chief called the Press back after Rummy said they were dismissed and he threw himself on the grenade. But the damage was done. Sad, really.

Back to the "Archetype" thing. If anyone out there has gone through a merger, merger of equals, or acquisition
in a big Corporation or Institution in the last 10 years, then some of the hearing language may have rang many bells! Transformation, cross-fertilization, sources and uses. Cheeze, how many times did McKinsey sell that stuff? It worries me that our government is using Banking in the 80's as a template!
That's why Clarke is so good. He saw it all and lived to tell. But still, it's ironic that Condi is the first one to swing in the wind.
