But for all the breeds of dogs, their genes have changed! Especially in the last 2000 years! Great Danes to Chihuahuas...most would astonish the Romans.
Yes exactly , and this is known as --->artificial selection . And it should demonstrate easily and powerfully for any who wish to see, just how profound selection can be in influencing species populations and that ability to modify behaviors and forms quite radically different from orginal ancestors. Romans would be amazed to see a Dachshund or a Poodle , or the size of some artichoke thistles and size of grain kernels we grow today.
And we have been doing this for 1000's of yrs already , also with plants too, from brocoli and brussel sprouts which feintly resemble their wild mustard relatives, and the huge fat ears of corn of today vs the 2-3in long relatives.
Artificial Selection is certainly a small step towards envisioning the processes of Natural Selection . I think the same thing can be said for the world of ideas as well, and the Creationists are very near the verge of extinction, but of course once the "Christians" came into power and people selctively hid behind those walls of "protective coloration of belief" and threat of fire and torture and excommunication etc
...the earlier pagan Gods , or the Gnostics & Pantheists were fairly well doomed or forced to go underground . And yet pantheism not only survives today , but threatens to make a HUGE come back ...since the Church's torture chambers have been closed and sealed ...in the civilized countries at least .<g>
