I would hope that those who condemn acts done by US troops when they (rarely) kill innocents by mistake, would at least condemn the killing of the civilians. Any deaths are very sad.

The brutality is something that certainly turns Americans against those who do these things. If the intent is to make Americans cut and run, I don't believe that will happen. On the other hand, there is an impression that our troops are sitting ducks, particularly in the Sunni triangle.

To the extent that Bush tactics can be portrayed as aimless and the result being troops who are just sitting ducks, Kerry will gain here. Quite frankly, if there is this level of cohesive action in Falujah, an attack to root out the perpetrators must be feasible. More and more will ask why we don't do this. It also gives a better understanding as to why the Israelis are so quick to go after terrorist leaders before they can strike. We may need to learn from Israel's 50 years of fighting terror.
