If Rice had not been promoted at Stanford because of her race, then she would not have been a likely candidate for her job as national security advisor.

This argument would suggest that no one of color, race, creed, etc who had been originally considered because of affirmative action, could rise above that and be considered for any higher national job.

Good thing you aren't in control of hiring. One hopes anyhow.

IMO, people, no matter their background, should be chosen for their talent, attitude, and what they will bring to the job.
