It is not legitimate campaign fodder.

But I would say Kerry's statement made in 1972 is even less so. He had come back from a traumatic war experience and was involved in an effort to stop a war that a great many thought was wrong ... it isn't hard to understand why he was strongly anti-war at the time, all young people were.
