I think a major problem with the DVR community is finding a marketing scheme that properly explains to the television watching community why it wants (needs) a DVR. I almost laugh when I remember the old pitch about being able to "pause live TV while you go to the bathroom". HUH? I am going to pay $300 for that?

The real key here is efficient use of capturing the myriad programs offered. And, not just programs, but types of programs, series of programs, actors within programs (or movies). I now have the TIVO season pass option programmed for about five series; my daughter has added ten and my wife five (including a critical soap opera!). The efficiency of never having to worry about when the show is on and knowing it is captured improves my focus on everything else that demands my time!

Also huge to me is sampling. Often program one episode of all kinds of shows, then burn through them to see if anything catches my attention for viewing of future episodes. Love this. In half an hour I am up to date with everything new. (some shows get four minutes and - delete-).

Now, how often would I observe advertising on the site? A lot...just like the Comcast guide (which I still have but don't use cause TIVO overlays it). Pushing buttons to achieve an efficient viewing process is what this is all about. And, each time, if I see an ad.....well, fine.
