Your typification of the political views is fairly apt. We are all frozen, to quote the most recent person of note, in amber. I'm, of course, of the first group you caricature; most of this thread is of the second.
But I have the sense the country, increasingly, is like this thread, frozen in one place or the other, though, thank heavens, in starkly different proportions than Bill's group. Last time I saw data, the apolitical middle has slipped to maybe 20% of the electorate, with 40% hewing, vigorously, to one side or the other. In fact, now that I look at that sentence in the SI editor, it may have been 10% with 45% frozen.
As for my being around here, I'm back for a short while. I've been quite busy but it slacked off about a week ago. I don't know how long the slack period will last but so long as it does, I'm having fun leaning into the attack mode.
