That's what happened four weeks ago, when protesters who criticized the electoral council ruling were beaten, arrested and tortured by Mr. Chávez's National Guard. Amnesty International condemned the ''excessive use of force.'' Venezuela's ambassador to the United Nations resigned, condemning his government's attacks on protesters as resembling ``those totalitarian or authoritarian regimes rejected by the peoples of Latin America in the 1980s.'

I wonder what happened to our Venezualan friend that used to post here? Not a peep in months.
