Sam - Re:"Isn't Windows NT sort of a double-edged sword for Intel?"

NT has to be written/compiled for each CPU platform. Most of it is CPU independent, but not all. Therefore, Microsoft and its partners have to complete NT for each specific platform.

I believe today's release is for Intel x86 platforms.

DEC, I believe, handles the Alpha port with the help of Microsoft.

Of even greater significance is actual NT application software. EACH APPLICATION must be compiled specifically for EACH NT platform. You can't run Intel x86 NT software directly on an Alpha NT workstation.

So, what platform do most vendors write their NT code on first? Good guess, Sam.

And what platforms do NT vendors drop when no one buys that software? Good guess again, Sam.
