"Can I help you, Miss?" The stranger had appeared from nowhere just as Muffy was about to do something with the tree. Climb it, perhaps? She looked him over with a practiced eye which leaked uncontrollably. He was a tall man with a pleasant face--tanned and clean-shaven. His blue eyes held a mixture of concern and a certain wry amusement. "I must look a sight," thought Muffy. "With my eyes leaking so crazy."

"I think I'm lost," she told the nice man who wanted to help her. "I am looking for the way home."

"Awesome!" the man ejaculated as he wrapped a strong manly hand around her delicate soft fingers. "So am I! Are you a philosopher, young lady?"

"I think I might be," she replied. It was funny. She felt so comfortable talking with this soft spoken young man. How long had they been talking like this?

"I was just about to climb this tree, Miss. May I have the honor of your company?"

Why was her heart fluttering in her breast like a covey of quail tripping on a gun? Was it heart disease? The tall stranger had been watching her keenly as she cogitated.

She looked up past his handsome face to the majestic tresses of the great looming tree. She could feel both of them waiting. Somehow she knew they had both been waiting a long long time..waiting for She Who Was Spoken Of. Muffy felt the power surge through her like a hurricane ripping through a butterfly farm...
