<Nobody's attack on anybody was "Pearl Harbor" by June 5th, 1967....totally ludicrous idea.>
Ludicrous, only if you begin with the initial assumption, that Israel is always the victim.
There are many parallels between December 9, 1941, and June 5, 1967. In both cases: 1. A numerically smaller nation led by militarists feels surrounded by enemies. 2. They decide that war is inevitable, and feel sufficiently provoked. In Israel's case, the provocation was Arab incitement, and massing of troops. In Japan's case, the provocation was an embargo of crucial raw materials. 3. They decide to go to war. 4. Once a decision to go to war has been made, it inevitably follows, that it's best to start the shooting yourself, to gain an initial advantage. 5. So Israel and Japan began their wars, in 1967 and 1941, with a surprise air attack on crucial enemy military assets. |
