I do not believe that there are people out there, other than those who are institutionalized or should be, that don't recognize that. People may differ about the scope of the enemy or the strength of the enemy or how best to de-fuse the enemy. I don't think anyone fails to recognize that there is an enemy.


If by "enemy" you mean someone who can't be talked out of it, whose hatred isn't just a cover for some list of negotiable grievances, who really, truly wants you dead, and no substitutes will do, then I completely disagree.

Lots and lots of people fail to recognize there is an enemy - because if they did recognize it, they would never waste their time and ours asking how we could mollify the enemy be acting differently or altering our foreign policy.
