The question is which in this index are the best plays. Some companies that are trading as nanos are not really nano. For example Nanometrics NANO, it is not a nanotech company, it is something called metrology which is not a new business and is something that KLA and Applied do. Still, nanometrix will likely start a nanotech division within their overall metrology business, and the semi equips are all border nano plays anyway, so in lieu of a direct nano play Merrill is including it in their index. Still I don't think this is the kind of stock I want. I am pretty sure nanx and ngen are really nanos, with nanx being a materials company and ngen being mostly a bio. Tiny is a VC but I don't think its a really quality VC because the big VCs out here are hitting nano in a big way.
