"It's not the job of the press to demand proof before they print. "

It is still the press job to be objective. They have given
up any pretense of doing that on politics. When other high
ranking officials & Clarke's own contradicting words have
been made public (mostly from the internet), the liberal
media has mostly ignored it. When they do report it, it is
not given anywhere the same hyped coverage & Clarke's
obvious lack of credibility is rarely mentioned.

So it's not so much about demanding proof. It's about
objective reporting all relevant facts. Journalists are
not supposed to report anyone's allegations without doing
any research whatsoever. Asking Clarke for any documents
to substantiate his BS allegations should have been done.
And they should have been doing their own detailed
research - Clarke's allegations raise serious questions
about the President & his admin & how they treated
terrorism prior to & post 9/11.

To fail to do so is irresponsible journalism. PERIOD!
