My experience has been that consolidations USUALLY cause a stock's price to DROP, at least in the short term. A recent example has been Williams Resources (WIM-T). And I agree, insiders have the advantage, no doubt. However, once a sector begins its move, ALL stocks in that sector tend to be drawn along with the crowd! Since junior mines/explorations companies have been getting trounced recently, and are at their historic lows, or even lower, their turnaround is probably close at hand.
I agree with your profit-taking philosophy - once you've made good money, take your initial investment, plus say 20%, off the table, and let the rest ride as long as the stock keeps going up. You may not make as much money as you may have had you let the whole kaboodle ride along, but if/when the sudden downturn comes along, at least you'll not have lost all of the gains you had already made.
Time will tell on this one.
Best of luck, and have a good day!
