Beleive it if I told you you have never worked as hard as that driver. Ups was the hardest job I ever had.
Sorry carlos, but I for one don't believe you. You obviously have never done house framing, done concrete finishing with hand tools, or hung drywall. That's just to name a few jobs harder than being a UPS deliveryman. I've done all of those things I listed, and while I readily admit that lifting boxes that weigh up to 115 lbs would be difficult, at least you get a break in between while you drive to the next address. And I know that every stop doesn't entail a 115 lb box, because I routinely get things UPS, and I've never had a one of them weigh that much. In fact, most of 'em are pretty light.
People don't get paid for how physically hard the job is. Because if they did, house framers and concrete workers (residential) would get $20/hr and up, but they don't, at least in the Pacific NW. And precious few construction workers (residential, anyway) get benefits of any kind. People get paid for how stressful the job is. More stress = more pay. People also get paid well when they have a strong union representing them. I don't see the Teamsters shedding those crocodile tears for house framers and residential concrete finishers (and painters, plumbers, electricians, etc.)
