They're doing it anyway. The only difference is that it will be apparent that Hamas is now defying the international community, rather than merely Israeli

Silly, don't you know that for the international community, it is always Israel's fault? The international community will ignore the bus blowing up, and come down like a ton of bricks on any Israeli attempts at reprisals or preventing the next attacks, both of which will be seriously hindered by the presence of NATO troops, who will not themselves be willing or able to do either.

And at least it will irrefutably display to the world that Islamic militants are not interested in merely a Palestinian homeland, but in the entire destruction of Israel.

The Islamic militants proclaim this five times a day already. The world community ignores it. Which part of this would the presence of NATO troops alter? Did you see, the EU just gave itself a clean bill of health on funding terrorism with the millions of euros it gives to Arafat? This is after the Israelis gave them the Muquata documents, which showed how Arafat skimmed Euro money to buy explosives for Al Aqsa.

What's the alternative.. Israeli destruction of the PA and decades of continued occupation and conflict?

Israel doesn't need to destroy the PA, it's self-destructing already. The alternative is for Israel to dig in defensively, keep killing terrrorists, and wait for the outcome of the Palesitnian civil war. When the Palestinians have reached exhaustion and do not want to fight anymore, then talks can begin again. They are not there yet, plainly.
