March drew 62 IPO bids in busiest month since 1999

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- A total of 62 companies filed initial public offerings in March. That's the busiest month since September, 1999 when 66 issuers filed IPOs, according to Thomson Financial. Filings ranged across the board, from financial services providers to biotech and medical device firms. In March of 2003, only five companies filed to go public

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- With U.S. stock markets closed this coming Friday, the market for initial public offerings is expecting only two debuts in the next four trading days. ProCentury (PROS) plans to offer 8.9 million shares at $10-$12 each in a bid to raise about $98 million with underwriter Friedman Billings Ramsey. Westerville, Ohio.-based ProCentury rang up $6.1 million in net income and revenue of $80.3 million in 2002 as a seller of specialty property and casualty insurance. Also, Gander Mountain (GMTN) is on deck to offer 5 million shares at a price range of $14-$16 in a bid to raise up to $80 million with underwriters Banc of America and William Blair. Minneapolis-based Gander Mountain rang up a 2002 net loss of $12.2 million and revenue of $357 million as a specialty retailer of outdoor merchandise.
